US Denies USS Abraham Lincoln Sunk by Iran
The brutal and deadly assault by Israel and the United States on Iran on Saturday, 28 February, shocked the world.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that Iran’s claim of having attacked the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier with ballistic missiles is false. “The Lincoln aircraft carrier was not hit. The missiles that were launched fell far short of the aircraft carrier,” CENTCOM stated. The command centre added that three US military personnel were killed and five others were seriously wounded in the military operation against Iran.
The US and Israel launched large-scale airstrikes against Iran on Saturday morning, triggering retaliation from Tehran, which unleashed waves of missiles and drones towards Israeli territory and US military bases in the Persian Gulf region.
US Central Command also disclosed on Sunday that American forces targeted Iran’s Jamaran-class corvette ship at the beginning of the military campaign named Operation Epic Fury, which was launched on Saturday, 28 February, local time. “The ship is currently sinking to the bottom of the Gulf of Oman at a dock in Chabahar,” CENTCOM stated.
Since the operation began, the US military has launched attacks against over 1,000 targets in Iran, including the headquarters of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). On Saturday evening, the US Air Force’s B-2 stealth bomber, armed with 2,000-pound bombs, struck Iran’s heavily fortified ballistic missile facilities, CENTCOM added.
US President Donald Trump claimed on Sunday, 1 March, that American forces have sunk nine Iranian warships and destroyed most of Iran’s naval command headquarters. “We have destroyed and sunk nine Iranian Navy ships, some of which are relatively large and important. In a separate strike, we destroyed most of their naval command centre,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, according to Xinhua.
Trump also stated that the US military is now pursuing Iran’s remaining naval fleet. Previously, on Sunday, 1 March, he told Fox News that 48 senior Iranian officials were killed in the US-Israeli strike on Iran.
