US Demands Verifiable Commitment from Iran on Full Denuclearisation

Washington (ANTARA) - US Vice President JD Vance has said the United States wants a strong and verifiable commitment from Iran to fully denuclearise the country. “There are some things we want, namely a strong, verifiable commitment, backed by inspections, that Iran will denuclearise across the entire country,” Vance said in an interview released on Tuesday. Vance explained that the US would strive to achieve this. On 18 June 2026, Iran and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to end the military conflict that began on 28 February 2026. The document also sets a deadline for the US to lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports, allowing Iran to restore shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran also committed not to possess nuclear weapons, with the nuclear issue to be resolved through a separate agreement. The parties will hold negotiations on the matter within 60 days. For Tehran, the expected outcome is the lifting of a number of anti-Iran sanctions.
