US considers deploying nuclear weapons to more NATO countries
Moscow (ANTARA) - The United States is discussing the possibility of stationing nuclear weapons in more European NATO member states as part of a plan to deploy dual-capable aircraft capable of launching nuclear attacks. The Financial Times reported on Tuesday, citing several sources, that US officials have signalled a readiness to expand deployment beyond the six countries that currently host nuclear-capable aircraft. This move could allow other nations to host US dual-capable aircraft designed to deliver nuclear strikes. Several Baltic states and NATO members on the alliance’s eastern flank, including Poland, are said to be interested in becoming locations for these aircraft. In recent years, Russia has repeatedly expressed concerns over unprecedented levels of NATO activity near its western borders. The Kremlin has asserted that Russia poses no threat to anyone but will not ignore actions deemed potentially harmful to its interests.
