US Considers Assault on Iran's Kharg Island, Troops Deployed Rapidly
Moscow (ANTARA) - The United States is reportedly considering a ground military operation to seize Kharg Island in Iran, amid the acceleration of troop deployments to the region, according to the daily The Jerusalem Post. Previously, an Axios report on 20 March mentioned that US President Donald Trump is prepared to take over Kharg Island to pressure Tehran into opening shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz. A US official stated that the military has accelerated the deployment of thousands of Marine and Navy personnel to the Middle East. Meanwhile, on 22 March, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent declared that all options remain open and did not rule out the possibility of sending troops to the island. It is known that the US and Israel launched attacks on several targets in Iran, including in Tehran, on 28 February, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran then retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.
