US Congressman Ready to Support Halt to Military Aid for Israel

A Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives, Greg Casar, stated on Monday that he would support an amendment aimed at halting the use of American taxpayer funds to finance military aid to Israel. Casar, who chairs the Congressional Progressive Caucus, accused the Israeli government of committing war crimes in Gaza and dragging the United States into a conflict with Iran. “Soon, the House will vote on an amendment to cut off US taxpayer funding for the Israeli military. I will be voting yes,” Casar wrote on the platform X. “The Israeli government has committed war crimes in Gaza and is now dragging us into a war with Iran. The American people should not be forced to send more weaponry to Netanyahu.” The amendment was introduced by Republican Representative Thomas Massie as part of the appropriations bill for the Department of State and national security. If approved, it would eliminate the $3.3 billion in annual foreign military financing that Israel receives. The proposal does not, however, affect a separate $500 million provided annually for missile defence systems, including Iron Dome. Casar acknowledged that the amendment could also impact roughly $50 million in diplomatic funding but maintained his support. “I would certainly prefer to vote on an amendment that only cuts off military funding, but the most important thing right now is to oppose these billions in military aid,” Casar said.
