The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has stated that it has achieved its objectives in military operations against Iran. The US military claims that a large portion of Iran’s military capabilities has been destroyed.

CENTCOM spokesperson, Captain Tim Hawkins, as reported by Al Arabiya on Monday (18/5/2026), stated that US military operations against Iran have been highly effective. He emphasised that Washington has achieved the military objectives set at the beginning of the confrontation.

In an exclusive interview with Al Arabim, Hawkins claimed that most of Iran’s military capabilities have been destroyed, including Tehran’s military manufacturing capabilities. He also claimed that Iran’s ability to launch missiles and drones has declined sharply.

Hawkins added that Iran’s capability to pose a threat is no longer what it once was. He further explained that US military forces have worked alongside allies to support air defence systems in the region.

Furthermore, he accused Tehran of launching deliberate attacks against civilians and launching missiles from densely populated areas within Iranian territory.

During the interview, Hawkins also stated that the US has imposed a blockade on Iran because Tehran has been using the Strait of Hormuz as a “weapon” to threaten freedom of navigation. He noted that US forces have diverted the routes of more than 80 ships since the blockade began on 13 April.

Hawkins emphasised that Washington is closely monitoring everything intended to enter or leave Iran.

Hawkins subsequently affirmed that US forces are prepared for any contingency plans that may be required in the region, signalling Washington’s sustained military readiness amidst rising tensions in the Gulf region.

This latest statement from CENTCOM comes as the Strait of Hormuz witnesses increased tension, impacting shipping traffic and global energy markets. The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, with one-fifth of global oil exports passing through the strait.

Recent threats and attacks have prompted several shipping and energy companies to review their maritime routes.
