US-China Finalise Preparations for Trump-Xi Meeting in Beijing

Tokyo (ANTARA) - US and Chinese officials held a dialogue in South Korea on Wednesday to finalise preparations ahead of the high-level meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

According to a report from Xinhua News Agency, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng met in a room at Incheon Airport regarding those discussions.

The dialogue between the two officials took place ahead of the Trump-Xi meeting, which is scheduled to occur in Beijing on Thursday (14/5) and Friday (15/5) local time.

Treasury Secretary Bessent and Vice Premier He, who are known to be close to their respective presidents, have led their governments in bilateral negotiations since last year.

In particular, during their dialogue in Busan in October 2025, Trump and Xi agreed to extend their trade war “truce” for one year.

In the upcoming Trump-Xi meeting, the two are predicted to approve several economic agreements, including an increase in purchases of US agricultural products and Boeing aircraft by China, according to a senior US official.
