Washington — A US Air Force KC-135 refuelling aircraft has crashed in western Iraq, US Central Command announced on Thursday (12 March).

“Two aircraft were involved in the incident. One aircraft crashed in western Iraq, and the second landed safely,” the command stated on the X social media platform.

“The incident occurred in allied airspace during Operation Epic Fury, and rescue efforts are ongoing,” the command said, adding that the incident was not caused by enemy fire or friendly fire.

In a separate development, British media reported on Thursday that several US military personnel were injured in a drone attack on a base in Erbil, northern Iraq, which houses British and American troops, citing British military officials.

Iraqi authorities on Thursday stated that two oil tankers were attacked within Iraqi territorial waters, prompting a suspension of operations at the nation’s oil terminal.
