US Called 'Satan' by Iranian Parliament Speaker Following Deaths of Children
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has stated that four military personnel were killed in a US attack in Kermanshah province, in the western part of the country, last night. Previously, authorities reported that at least five civilians also died in a US strike during a wedding ceremony in the southern region.
“Four members of the IRGC Aerospace Force in Kermanshah province were killed in an attack by the US regime,” stated a report broadcast by the Fars news agency on Wednesday.
In the US attack on a wedding event in the Sirik region of southern Iran, the casualties included two children.
The Hormozgan Provincial Government announced the names of the four victims killed in Tuesday night’s attack: Amir Ali Karimi (4 years old), Mohammed Mollahi (16 years old), Kolsoom Mollahi Najhandania (43 years old), and Zarkhatoon Taheri (50 years old).
Three members of the Basij paramilitary unit were killed in a US attack on Lavan Island, according to the Iranian news agency, Mehr. At least 18 military personnel and civilians died in the attacks that occurred overnight.
The Basij is a volunteer unit under the command of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that recruits civilians. This militia is known for its strong ideology, and its members often consist of young men from the working class. Its strength is estimated to reach 4xt50,000 personnel.
Basij forces are frequently deployed to the front lines during protests and have played a significant role in suppressing resistance movements against the government in recent years.
The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, strongly condemned the United States for killing children in Iran, referring to the nation’s forces as “Satan.”
In a statement on the X platform, he said, “If a power acts like Satan, chooses targets like Satan, and kills like Satan, then that power is Satan.”
He highlighted the killing incident at a primary school in Minab, which killed more than 150 people—mostly children. He also mentioned the attack on a house during a wedding celebration in Sirik, which killed at least four people, including a child.
In a letter addressed to the International Criminal Court (ICC), the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) urged legal action following last night’s US missile attack on a wedding event in Kuhestak, Hormozgan.
“Given the status of the location as a venue for a family wedding celebration—as reported—and the presence of civilians at the scene, this incident raises serious concerns under international humanitarian law and demands an independent, impartial, thorough, and effective investigation,” the IRCS stated.
“Launching an attack intentionally with the awareness that the attack will cause incidental loss of life or injury to civilians—which is clearly disproportionate to the concrete and direct military advantage expected—may lead to individual criminal responsibility under international criminal law, in accordance with the provisions and elements set out in the Rome Statute,” the statement read.
The organisation added that the attack, which killed four people and injured 67 others, could be categorised as a war crime.
