Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has opened opportunities for direct dialogue with US businesspeople in efforts to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation, particularly on technical aspects related to fiscal policy and investment. This step was conveyed during his attendance at the Joint Roundtable forum in Washington D.C., which brought together the Indonesian government with various US businesspeople from strategic sectors.

The forum, organised by the US-ASEAN Business Council and the US Chamber of Commerce, was attended by several major US companies operating in fields such as finance, technology, energy, and health. This meeting serves as an important momentum to tighten economic relations while opening more intensive communication channels between the government and business actors.

In his statement, Purbaya emphasised that the forum is not merely a formal meeting venue but a strategic space to explore concrete opportunities. He stated that the involvement of US businesspeople in direct dialogues is expected to drive faster investment realisation and expand cross-sector collaborations in Indonesia.

Technical Dialogue and Investment Opportunities Expanded

During the forum, Purbaya outlined Indonesia’s economic conditions, which remain solid amid global pressures. He explained that the government continues to implement adaptive fiscal policies to respond to geopolitical dynamics and global economic uncertainties.

According to him, the government’s openness to input from US businesspeople is an important part of designing more responsive and competitive policies. In addition, the government is focusing on deepening the domestic financial market, accelerating the digitalisation of payment systems, and strengthening the foundations of financial sector resilience.

Purbaya affirmed that economic stability remains the top priority, but at the same time, the government is pushing for structural transformation so that Indonesia can achieve high-income country status. He assessed that synergy with the global private sector, including from the United States, is one of the keys to achieving that target.

Structural Reforms as the Foundation of Resilience

In addition to the bilateral forum, Purbaya also attended the G20 1st Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting, which discussed global economic issues. On that occasion, he highlighted the importance of regulatory reforms and strengthened governance that Indonesia has undertaken in recent years.

He stressed that national economic resilience today is not built instantaneously but is the result of consistent long-term reforms. This becomes a differentiating factor when facing global crises, including the impacts of geopolitical conflicts that trigger disruptions in the energy sector.

Furthermore, Purbaya noted that the global situation, particularly tensions in the Middle East, serves as a reminder of the importance of efficiency in licensing processes and resource management. Such efficiency is deemed crucial in maintaining national energy resilience.
