The Iranian Embassy in London has asserted that it is not involved in the bomb threats near a British military airbase used by the United States (US). Iran has also strongly condemned speculation linking Tehran to the threat.

The Iranian Embassy, as reported by AFP on Monday (28/09/2026), stated that such allegations are merely intended to trigger Iranophobic propaganda in the UK.

“The recent baseless and malicious speculation published by several British individuals and media outlets attempting to link Iran” to the incident that occurred early Sunday morning near the Royal Air Force (RAF) Fairford base,” said the Iranian Embassy in London.

The Embassy mentioned that the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to take appropriate legal measures, if necessary, to protect the rights and interests of the state and its people in response to misleading and harmful narratives.

In this incident, five men, who are British nationals in their 20s, have been arrested. British counter-terrorism police are leading the investigation into the case.

The statement from the Iranian Embassy in London follows investigations by British counter-terrorism police into alleged Iranian involvement in the suspected bomb threat near the airbase used by the US military in its conflict with Tehran. The incident involved the deployment of bomb disposal teams, with at least five men having been detained.

Police personnel, as reported by AFP, were called to the RAF Fairford base in southwest England in the early hours of Sunday (27/09) after receiving reports of “suspicious vehicles appearing to move towards the airbase.”

British authorities have not yet officially confirmed the details regarding the nature or source of the threat near the airbase, which houses US military troops and aircraft.

However, British counter-terrorism police have arrested five men on suspicion of “preparing for terrorist acts” near the airbase and on charges related to explosives. The five men currently remain in custody.

The identities of the suspects have not yet been released to the public. A source familiar with the investigation, as quoted by Reuters, stated that a motive related to Iran is considered the most likely possibility, although Russian sabotage operations or attack plans by Islamist groups are also being investigated.
