US Appreciates Indonesian Immigration for Capturing Murder Fugitive
Tangerang (ANTARA) - The United States has praised the professionalism of Republic of Indonesia immigration officers for their success in capturing a murder suspect with the initials AJP from that country.
“We can emphasise that this was a very difficult situation that has been handled very professionally and in a timely manner at every level with our Indonesian counterparts,” said Richard Dunn, Special Agent Overseas Criminal Investigator of the United States, during a press conference on the handover of the foreign national listed as a wanted person (DPO) at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday evening.
He stated that his country’s police had faced considerable difficulties in pursuing the murder fugitive.
However, through good cooperation between the two countries and professional handling by Indonesian immigration officers, a positive outcome was achieved.
“This is a very good relationship that we have built since I have been here, and I look forward to continuing to work side by side in the future,” he said.
He noted that local law enforcement authorities have continued to conduct investigative efforts to uncover the facts of the case.
Nevertheless, the successful capture of this dangerous murder fugitive can accelerate the resolution of the case.
“We cannot yet comment on the ongoing investigation. Once everything is complete, there will be further information releases in the future after all the facts are revealed,” he said.
Previously, the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Institutions (Kemenimipas) deported a US citizen with the initials AJP, who was on the DPO list for an alleged murder case in that country.
His side, he said, instructed the immigration team to immediately conduct checks at every arrival autogate and tracking via the existing face recognition status at Ngurah Rai Airport.
“Because our autogate system is indeed very capable, on that very day, the autogate and face recognition worked to detect the person’s arrival. On 17 January 2026, the person was also arrested at Ngurah Rai Airport,” he said.
Subsequently, after the successful capture, his side then carried out temporary detention at the Immigration Detention House for several months before handing him back to his home country.
He also said that during the capture process, the foreign murder suspect arrived in Indonesia alone without the involvement of others.
“But he did not come directly from America; he came from one Asian country first, then to Bali,” he said.
