US and Israel Attack Khamenei's Sanctuary
The United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran on Saturday, 28 February 2026. The attacks are believed to be directly targeting Iran’s spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
An Al Jazeera correspondent reported: “I have sent messages to my sources stating that US involvement in these strikes is aimed at ‘decapitating the Iranian regime’.”
Sources indicated that the strikes were concentrated in areas where Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei may have been taking shelter. The objective, they stated, was to attempt to eliminate the head of the regime and then observe what would happen next. Several countries have warned the United States against the strikes and sought clarification on plans for the following days.
The Associated Press reported that the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran on Saturday, with the first visible attack occurring near the office of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian media reported attacks across the country, with smoke visible rising from the capital.
It remains unclear whether the 86-year-old Khamenei was in his office at the time. He has not been seen in public for several days as tensions with the United States have escalated.
