Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) has requested that Indonesian citizens postpone travel to the Middle East region.

The advisory was issued in light of the security situation in the Middle East resulting from attacks by Israel and the United States against Iran.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Indonesian citizens planning to travel through or transit the Middle East region to reconsider their travel plans and postpone their journeys until the situation becomes more conducive,” stated an official Kemlu statement on Sunday (1 March 2026).

The ministry also urged all Indonesian citizens in the Middle East region to remain calm, increase vigilance, follow local authorities’ directions, and maintain regular communication with the nearest Indonesian diplomatic mission.

“The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Directorate for Protection of Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) and Indonesian missions in the Middle East region, continues to maintain intensive communication and coordinate with Indonesian citizens in their respective areas of operation,” the ministry added.

The Foreign Ministry, together with all Indonesian missions in the region, will continue to monitor and conduct comprehensive assessments of the security situation dynamics, actual conditions on the ground, and response measures currently being and will be implemented to address future developments.

Previously, Israel attacked Tehran, Iran, on Saturday (28 February 2026) morning. Following the attack, countries in the Middle East region closed their airspace for security reasons.

The United States is reported to have been involved in the attack. This information was conveyed by several US officials and other sources with knowledge of the operation.

The attack occurred as the US deployed a large fleet of fighter jets and warships to the region to pressure Iran into reaching an agreement regarding its nuclear programme.

During the attack, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, died at his residence along with his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson.
