US and Iran Make Peace, Indonesia's Hopes

The Indonesian government welcomes reports of a peace agreement reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran and hopes that de-escalation of conflict in the region can be realised as the commitment is honoured, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Monday (15/6). “This is a positive development towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict and the creation of peace, security, and stability in the region,” read a written statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via social media platform X. Indonesia appreciates the efforts of all parties and mediators who have contributed constructively in facilitating dialogue and encouraging the peaceful settlement of differences, the ministry said. Indonesia urges all conflicting parties to continue engaging constructively in dialogue to maintain momentum towards de-escalation. “Indonesia also calls on all parties to continue to exercise restraint and comply with the commitments that have been agreed upon,” according to the ministry’s statement. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Indonesia continues to push for the immediate implementation of the peace agreement between the US and Iran. Indonesia also affirmed its readiness to support all efforts aimed at advancing peace, security, and stability in the region, in accordance with international law and the objectives and principles of the United Nations (UN) Charter. US President Donald Trump on Sunday announced that the deal with Iran had been completed and stated he was authorising the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the US naval blockade. “The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now done. Congratulations to all parties!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. “I hereby fully authorise the opening of the Strait of Hormuz without charge, and at the same time authorise the immediate lifting of the United States Navy blockade,” he added. Similarly, the Iranian government confirmed that a peace agreement had been reached with the United States, and the signing of the agreement will take place in Switzerland on 19 June. “The text of the memorandum of understanding has been finalised, and the official signing of the document will take place in Switzerland on Friday,” said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi in a live Iranian television broadcast. He confirmed that the US-Iran peace agreement includes the cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, starting Monday evening (15/6).
