Washington (ANTARA) - Representatives from the United States and Iran held separate discussions on Monday regarding efforts to end the conflict in the Middle East with mediating nations.

According to Reuters, citing sources from both sides, further talks are reported to focus on amending the seven-day plan proposed by Iran last week. No specific details regarding the format or the content of the discussions were disclosed.

On Monday, Axios quoted a US official stating that US President Donald Trump is prepared to ease sanctions on Iran and unfreeze Tehran’s blocked funds if there is “concrete progress” on the nuclear deal. However, Trump subsequently denied those reports.

At the same time, Reuters reported, citing sources, that the Trump administration is considering temporary sanctions exemptions for flights transporting Shia pilgrims between Iran and Iraq.

It was previously reported that the United States and Iran might hold separate talks with mediators involved in the conflict resolution process on 28 or 29 September.

In his speech at the UN General Assembly last week, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the Islamic Republic maintains it will not develop nuclear weapons.

In early September, Trump stated there was a 99.9 per cent possibility that Washington would reach a nuclear deal with Tehran.
