US Ambassador to UN States Negotiations with Iran Are Still Ongoing
Washington (ANTARA) - The United States Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Mike Waltz, stated that negotiations with Iran are still ongoing.
“Negotiations and diplomacy are still taking place. So, we will see what they produce,” Waltz told ABC television station on Sunday.
He added that US President Donald Trump wishes to resolve the conflict with Iran through diplomatic means.
However, if the diplomatic approach fails, Trump is prepared to continue the conflict.
“He (Trump) is giving diplomacy every possible chance before returning to hostilities, but he is truly ready to do that,” Waltz said.
The US and Israel began attacking targets in Iran, including Tehran, since 28 February.
Iran then carried out retaliatory strikes in Israeli territory as well as at US military facilities in the Middle East.
Subsequently, on 7 April, Washington and Tehran announced a ceasefire and resumed talks with mediation from Islamabad, which ended without conclusion. Without reports of renewed hostilities, the US began blockading Iranian ports.
