US$3.7 Billion Per Month in Circulation, BI Eases China Yuan Transactions in Indonesia
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Bank Indonesia (BI) is easing Chinese yuan transactions in Indonesia, following the growing uptake of the Local Currency Transaction (LCT) instrument. Governor of BI Perry Warjiyo said that Indonesia’s LCT with China is currently equivalent to US$3.7 billion per month. The cumulative amount for the previous year stood at US$25 billion. ‘Now the Chinese Yuan is also being transacted domestically, because our local currency transactions with China are the largest,’ Perry said at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office, Jakarta, Thursday (21/5/2026).
Therefore, he emphasised, domestic banks now have a comprehensive set of yuan-related transaction facilities, following the addition of transaction instruments set by BI.
The yuan transaction instruments can now be conducted directly within domestic banking, in cash or spot transactions, currency swaps, and forwards. ‘So ladies and gentlemen, if you hold Chinese Yuan domestically, there are many options now; you can transact directly, whether cash/spot, swap, or even forward,’ Perry said.
