URSIP Intervention in Lampung's Way Sekampung Irrigation Area Covers 36,197 ha
Bandarlampung (ANTARA) - Acting Director of Irrigation and Wetlands at the Ministry of Public Works, Dedi Yudha Lesmana, said the Urgent Rehabilitation of Strategic Irrigation Project (URSIP) intervention in 2026 for Lampung’s Way Sekampung irrigation area covers 36,197 hectares. ‘In 2026, URSIP – an urgent repair of strategic irrigation networks – will be implemented across 56 regions in Indonesia, including Lampung’s Way Sekampung irrigation area,’ Dedi Yudha Lesmana stated during a food production enhancement meeting in Bandarlampung on Wednesday. The total intervention for primary canal repairs spans 81,834 metres and secondary canals 187,415 metres, covering a land area of 36,197 hectares. ‘Funding comes from PLN, supported by South Korea through the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) and a multi-year contract scheme,’ he added. ‘Expected benefits include raising the cropping index from 1.80 to 2.20, an additional annual rice production potential of 44,000 tonnes of paddy, and supporting aspirations and Presidential Instruction No. 2/2025 on food self-sufficiency.’ Detailed work locations for the 2026 URSIP intervention in the Way Sekampung irrigation area include Bekri irrigation region, with primary canals measuring 6,213 metres and secondary canals 34,253 metres, covering 5,507 hectares. North Punggur irrigation area features primary canals of 19,150 metres and secondary canals of 51,570 metres, covering 13,369 hectares. North Batanghari irrigation area has primary canals of 7,670 metres and secondary canals of 16,763 metres, covering 2,561 hectares, while Rumbia Extension irrigation area includes primary canals of 2,502 metres and secondary canals of 3,653 metres, spanning 500 hectares.
