URI Established to Boost Human Resources and Forge Future Leaders, Says Governor
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Donny Ermawan Taufanto, Governor of the University of the Republic of Indonesia (URI), has explained that the establishment of URI forms part of the government’s commitment to improving the quality of human resources in order to forge future leaders.
“So, the President is deeply concerned with human resources, particularly for Indonesia’s future leaders. He wants education to be strengthened, from primary and junior secondary schools through to senior secondary level, higher education, and government,” Donny said at a press statement at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Donny said the government’s major steps to build human resource capacity are being carried out through the integration of various existing programmes and educational institutions.
These efforts, he said, include the development of the Garuda Excellence Schools, the establishment of the University of the Republic of Indonesia, and the integration of the National Institute of Public Administration (LAN).
“We have already heard about the Garuda Excellence Schools, both newly established and those transformed from existing ones. He will also establish ten University of the Republic of Indonesia campuses, and thirdly, the National Institute of Public Administration will be integrated. All of this relates to education, training, and preparing human resources for the future, both for government and for state-owned enterprises,” he said.
In addition, Donny revealed that the government will form a National Education Management Body under the authority of the URI Governor. According to him, the body will oversee three institutions.
“There will be three institutions: firstly, the Excellence Schools Management Body; secondly, the Higher Education Management Body; and thirdly, the National Institute of Public Administration,” he said.
Regarding the integration and development of LAN, Donny explained that the institution’s functions will be broadened, covering not only the training of civil servants (ASN) but also the training and education of state-owned enterprise (BUMN) employees.
“To date it has focused on training civil servants, but we will add training for BUMN staff. So the preparation of BUMN employees will also be carried out at the National Institute of Public Administration,” Donny said.
He also noted that efforts to develop human resources have already begun through the President’s Programme for Future Leaders (P3MD). Through this programme, the government is preparing the nation’s best prospective leaders for continuous development.
“We are currently training and developing 399 new BUMN employees to become workers with noble hearts and brilliant minds to advance our nation. This will be integrated: excellent senior secondary graduates will go on to university, and then into government or BUMN,” he said.
Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Donny as Governor of the University of the Republic of Indonesia at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.
At the same ceremony, the President also inaugurated Professor Yos Sunitiyoso as Vice Governor of the university.
Donny previously served as Deputy Minister of Defence, whilst Yos was Director of Downstreaming and Partnerships at the Directorate General of Research and Development at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.
