Governor of Universitas Republik Indonesia (URI) Donny Ermawan Taufanto has explained that the formation of URI is part of the government’s commitment to improving the quality of human resources (HR) in order to forge future leaders. “The President is very concerned with human resources, especially for Indonesia’s future leaders in particular. This is why he desires education, whether at the primary, junior secondary, senior secondary, tertiary levels, and also within government,” Donny said during a press statement at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday. Donny stated that the government’s major step in enhancing HR capacity is being carried out through the integration of various existing programmes and educational institutions. This effort, he said, includes the development of Sekolah Unggul Garuda, the establishment of Universitas Republik Indonesia, and the integration of the National Institute of Public Administration (LAN). “So, we have heard that currently there is something called Sekolah Unggulan Garuda, both new and transformed ones. Then he will also establish 10 Universitas Republik Indonesia. The next, the third, is also integrating the National Institute of Public Administration. All of this is related to education, coaching, and preparation of human resources for the future. Both for government and for state-owned enterprises (BUMN),” he said. Furthermore, Donny revealed that the government will form a National Education Management Agency under the authority of the Governor of URI. According to him, the agency will oversee three institutions. “There will be three institutions, the first is the Agency for Managing Excellent Schools, the second is the Agency for Managing Higher Education, and the third is the National Institute of Public Administration,” he said. Regarding the integration and development of LAN, Donny explained that in the future the function of the institution will be expanded, not only for the development of the State Civil Apparatus (ASN), but also to include coaching and education for employees of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN). “If previously it specifically carried out coaching for ASN, later we will also add for BUMN. So, the preparation of employees for BUMN will also be carried out at the National Institute of Public Administration,” Donny said. On the occasion, Donny also conveyed that HR development efforts have begun through the President’s Programme for Future Leaders (P3MD). Through this programme, the government is preparing the nation’s best future leaders to be coached continuously. “So we are training, coaching, currently 399 new employees from BUMN, we are training, we are coaching, to become employees who have noble hearts, and have intelligent brains to advance our nation. So it will be integrated from excellent high school graduates, then they will enter higher education, and then enter government or BUMN,” he said. Previously, President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Donny as Governor of Universitas Republik Indonesia at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday. On the same occasion, the President also inaugurated Professor Yos Sunitiyoso as Vice Governor of Universitas Republik Indonesia. Donny previously served as Deputy Minister of Defence, while Yos previously served as Director of Downstreaming and Partnerships at the Directorate General of Research and Development of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.
