The Jakarta Provincial Water Resources Department (SDA) will commence repairs on the collapsed road on Lenteng Agung Street in South Jakarta starting tonight. Santo, Head of the South Jakarta Sub-District SDA, stated that initial safety measures have been implemented with the installation of temporary steel plates at the collapsed site. ‘Initial safety measures have been carried out with temporary steel plates. The permanent repair is scheduled for nighttime to ensure optimal work without causing major traffic disruptions,’ Santo said when contacted on Friday (29 May 2026). Santo explained that the 3-metre-wide collapsed section is suspected to be caused by damage to the old drainage infrastructure beneath the road. He said the drainage structure’s quality is estimated to have deteriorated due to aging infrastructure and high rainfall intensity. For permanent repair, SDA will replace the old drainage structure with a 2x2 metre concrete box culvert spanning 16 metres. The work is expected to take three days, with execution adjusted based on site conditions. ‘Permanent repairs will involve replacing the drainage with a box culvert. We aim to complete the work as soon as possible while maintaining construction quality and road user safety,’ he said. The nighttime work schedule was chosen to avoid disrupting public mobility, given that Lenteng Agung Main Road is a heavily trafficked route. Traffic management will be implemented to ensure safety and smooth flow of vehicles around the worksite. ‘We are continuously monitoring the on-site handling to ensure repairs are completed as quickly as possible, while maintaining road user safety and drainage construction quality,’ he added.
