Serpong district in South Tangerang is developing into one of the new residential and lifestyle hubs in the buffer zone surrounding the capital. The development of various urban facilities, ranging from shopping centres and hospitals to educational institutions, is driving the formation of an increasingly comprehensive urban ecosystem in the area.

One of the key area developments shaping modern Serpong is Summarecon Serpong, developed by PT Summarecon Agung Tbk. Situated on approximately 850 hectares of land, the area is designed as an integrated city combining residential units, commercial zones, educational facilities, and public spaces within a single environment.

Over time, this area has expanded to include more than 12,000 residential units, approximately 6,000 apartments, 1,800 residential plots, and around 2,000 shophouse units. Several residential areas such as Pondok Hijau Golf, The Springs, Scientia Garden, and Symphonia form part of an interconnected district structure.

Commercial development continues to grow. Business shophouses are expanding across multiple locations within the area, including the launch of City Hub in 2025 on Boulevard Gading Serpong, as well as City Gate, scheduled for introduction in 2026 in the central business district.

Beyond residential and business areas, diverse urban facilities have been constructed, including Summarecon Mall Serpong shopping centre, Plaza Summarecon Serpong office tower, and healthcare facilities such as Saint Carolus Summarecon Serpong Hospital.

The area also features educational facilities ranging from primary schools to universities, including Pahoa Integrated School, Al Azhar Summarecon Serpong Islamic School, Pradita University, and Universitas Multimedia Nusantara.

Area development is also directed towards the lifestyle sector. One project being prepared is The Hood, a creative retail compound covering nearly four hectares, planned to open in mid-2026.

Albert Luhur, Executive Director of Summarecon Serpong, stated that area development is not merely about constructing properties, but also about creating an integrated living space.

“The various access routes to Summarecon Serpong are expected to increasingly enhance the value of the area and stimulate the growth of various business opportunities. The area will become increasingly vibrant and residents can carry out activities more comfortably without limitations. In this way, Summarecon Serpong becomes more complete as it not only provides various integrated city-scale facilities, but is also supported by easy access with several transport mode options,” he said, as reported on Monday 16 March.

In terms of connectivity, access to the area has expanded following the inauguration of a connecting road between Gading Serpong and BSD City in January 2025. This road links Boulevard Gading Serpong with the BSD area, facilitating inter-regional mobility.

Additionally, the developer is exploring cooperation with PT MRT Jakarta for the development of an east-west MRT corridor planned to connect Kembangan to Balaraja. This transport integration is expected to broaden area access with public transport networks.

Area management is also equipped with an integrated security system through a command centre established at the main gate of the Symphonia area in 2023. This facility monitors area security, traffic, and rapid response systems.

Beyond urban infrastructure, the area also provides family recreation spaces such as SQP Park. This open green area offers recreational and educational attractions for visitors.

“We present SQP Park as a family recreation space that is not only entertaining but also provides an enjoyable learning experience for children. Through various thematic zones, animal interaction, and outdoor adventure activities, visitors can enjoy quality family time whilst getting to know the environment and wildlife more closely and interactively,” said Alese Sandria, Centre Head of SQP Park.

Various recreational facilities are available in the park, ranging from a miniature train that traverses different thematic zones to animal interaction areas featuring alpacas, capybaras, and ponies. For visitors who prefer outdoor activities, adventure facilities such as rope courses and wall climbing are also available.
