UPS to expand in Asia
SINGAPORE (AFP): The world's largest courier service, United
Parcel Service (UPS), announced yesterday plans to increase its
operations in the Asia-Pacific region, a senior company official
said.
Kent Nelson, the chief executive officer of the U.S.-based
company, said UPS had already drawn up plans to either begin
opening new offices in countries in the region or through joint
ventures and expanding existing operations.
He disclosed that UPS would be setting up a warehouse in
Singapore in September in keeping with the republic's position as
the regional headquarters.
He added that UPS was now in the process of beginning "small
operations in some of the countries in the region as a first step
to making its presence."
Nelson said UPS was already negotiating with several business
organizations in the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Burma and
India.
