UPS chooses RP as hub

MANILA (AFP): US courier firm United Parcel Service (UPS) on Thursday signed a letter of intent to set up a US$300 million regional hub in the Philippines, according to an official statement.

The letter signed by UPS International president Ron Wallace and Trade Secretary Manuel Roxas signifies UPS' intent to set up operations in the former US air force base of Clark north of Manila.

UPS is to dedicate 10 daily flights from its global fleet of 238 aircraft in its first year of operation at Clark, it said without saying when the project would start.

President Gloria Arroyo witnessed the signing during a visit to Clark.
