A video narrating an incident at the Kamasan 1 Papua student dormitory in Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta City, being attacked by unknown persons (OTK) went viral on social media. The police have revealed the actual events behind the video.

The video was uploaded by the Instagram account @suaraakarrumputt on Sunday (5/4/2026). It shows a crowd in front of the dormitory, with some appearing to carry items resembling weapons.

“A terrifying night in Jogja, the Papua Kamasan dormitory suddenly attacked by OTK,” read the caption in the post, as seen by detikJogja on Monday (6/4/2025).

When asked to confirm the truth of this news, Deputy Head of Public Relations at Yogyakarta Police Resort, Ipda Anton Budi Susilo, denied that the events in the video constituted an attack.

“It was not an attack on the dormitory,” Anton explained when contacted today.

Anton described the incident on Sunday (5/4) at 23.20 WIB. According to him, that night, the Papua student dormitory on Jalan Kusumanegara, Mujamuju, Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta City, was visited by four people.

“Four people arrived and asked the coffee stall vendor in front of the dormitory about a certain person’s name. However, the coffee vendor (a Papuan resident) replied that he did not know,” said Anton.

Anton stated that no attack took place. However, the four unknown individuals became angry, causing the coffee vendor to shout, which prompted the dormitory residents to come out.

“Subsequently, the four individuals got angry, making the coffee vendor shout, which caused the dormitory residents to come out. Then the four individuals fled,” he concluded.
