Tangerang, CNN Indonesia – Residents of Sindang Panon Village, Sindang Jaya District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, were shocked by the discovery of a baby girl’s body floating in an irrigation channel on Friday (13/2).

Pasar Kemis Police Chief AKP Humaedi confirmed the incident. He explained that the body of the baby, estimated to be approximately one week old, was first discovered by a resident who was fishing at the location.

“After the witness saw a wrapped bundle floating in the river, the witness immediately checked the bundle. When it was opened, it turned out to contain a baby’s body,” Humaedi said on Saturday (14/2).

Humaedi revealed that when found, the baby was wrapped in cloth and bound with tape. The baby’s body has been taken to Balaraja Regional Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

“The baby was female and is estimated to have been newly born, approximately one week old, because when found, the umbilical cord was no longer attached,” he explained.

Humaedi affirmed that an investigation is currently underway to uncover the perpetrator and the motive behind the abandonment of the baby.

“Currently, the criminal investigation unit is conducting an investigation,” he stated firmly.
