UPPKB urges trucking companies to inspect vehicle roadworthiness

The Head of the Cilincing Motor Vehicle Testing Unit (UP PKB), Adji Kusambarto, has urged transport operators and drivers to carry out routine inspections to ensure their vehicles, particularly trucks, are roadworthy and do not endanger other motorists. “We encourage public and goods vehicle operators to conduct motor vehicle testing through periodic KIR tests every six months,” Adji said in Jakarta on Monday. According to Adji, public and goods vehicles operating on the roads must be confirmed to be in a roadworthy condition. He assessed that unroadworthy vehicles would impact driving safety, not only for the driver but also for other road users. “Do not let accidents happen because vehicles have not undergone routine inspections,” he said. Adji stated that KIR testing is carried out as a precautionary measure to avoid traffic accidents. “We also continue to conduct outreach to both transport operators and vehicle drivers to regularly inspect their vehicles,” he said. The KIR test, he continued, aims to ensure the vehicle is fit to operate, covering the physical condition of the vehicle, engine, exhaust emissions, brakes, and other aspects. “There is certainty that makes road users feel safe because these trucks are fit to operate,” he said. He noted that the Cilincing UP PKB specifically serves the testing of large vehicles transporting trailers and containers. “Registration can be done online through the official website by uploading the required documents. This KIR testing service is completed in a short time,” he said. Furthermore, the Cilincing UP PKB is capable of serving hundreds of vehicles daily. Adji added that the office has four service lanes, with one lane able to handle 110 vehicles per day. “In total, there are 440 vehicles, plus two collective service slots per day with a maximum of 120 vehicles, so the total can reach 560 vehicles,” he said.
