UPN 'Veteran' Yogyakarta Lecturer Temporarily Suspended After Alleged Sexual Violence Case Goes Viral on X
A lecturer from UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta is under temporary suspension following allegations of sexual violence that emerged after a post went viral on the social media platform X. The allegations, shared by the account @onlonenyside, claim that the lecturer in the Agro-technology Study Programme, Faculty of Agriculture, engaged in acts of sexual violence using various methods since 2022.
In the viral post, the accused is said to have approached potential victims through invitations to meals, offering job information, supervising theses, and requesting help in completing reports on the lecturer. In response, the university’s Task Force for Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (Satgas PPKPT) stated that it has received reports of alleged sexual violence involving a lecturer as the respondent, and that the case is being processed according to applicable procedures with a priority on protecting the victim.
The chair of Satgas PPKPT, Iva Rachmawati, emphasised that the university is committed to creating a safe, comfortable, dignified, inclusive educational environment free from all forms of violence, including sexual violence and the misuse of power relations within the academic setting. “UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta is fully committed to fostering a safe educational environment,” she said in a statement received on Wednesday (20 May 2026).
As a firm disciplinary measure, the university has implemented administrative action in the form of temporary suspension against the implicated lecturer during the ongoing investigation. The university added that it would not tolerate any form of violence within campus.
The policy referenced is the Ministerial Regulation of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Permendikbudristek) Number 55 of 2024 on Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education Environments. The temporary suspension is recorded in the Rector’s Decree of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta Number 1531/UN62/TP/KEP/2026 dated 19 May 2026.
“The temporary suspension of the accused lecturer will not disrupt the learning process on campus,” Iva stated. She affirmed that Satgas PPKPT continues to conduct objective and professional investigations into the allegations, guided by the principle of protecting victims. “In this regard, the Task Force will follow up on all information and evidence received in accordance with the applicable mechanisms,” she added.
