UPN 'Veteran' grants lab equipment to schools

YOGYAKARTA: Private-run National Development University (UPN) "Veteran" Yogyakarta on Wednesday granted local high schools here with a tool for measuring the speed of sound waves (kecepatan gelombang bunyi) and rocks (batuan) as visual aids.

The university's director for community service (LPPM) Sari Bahagiarti Kusumayudha, who symbolically handed over the donation to high school representatives at a ceremony held at the campus on Wednesday, hoped the aid would be of a great help for the schools in carrying the teaching and learning activities of the natural sciences.

The high schools include SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Depok (Sleman), SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Bantul, SMA Angkasa Adisutjipto Yogyakarta, SMA Negeri 1 Pleret (Bantul), SMA "17" 1 Bantul, SMA Negeri 1 Sleman, and SMA Patria Bantul.

"As a form of community service we are also ready to send visiting teachers to senior high schools in need to teach either natural sciences or social sciences," Sari said. -- JP
