Bandung — Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) has provided two solar power panel units to underprivileged households that have lived without electricity for 15 years in Rongga District, West Bandung Regency through the Independent People’s Electricity (Limar) programme.

UPI Rector Didi Sukyadi stated that the Limar programme is a community service initiative aimed at improving energy access for underprivileged families lacking adequate electrical lighting.

“These solar panels must be maintained to ensure long-term use. Hopefully, with this lighting, residents can conduct activities at night and become more productive,” said Didi during a visit to a Limar programme beneficiary’s home in West Bandung on Monday.

During the visit, the UPI Rector witnessed the direct installation of two new solar panels at the household that previously had no electricity access.

As such, UPI has coordinated with various parties to prepare home renovation support for residents in need.

“UPI immediately coordinated with various parties to prepare renovation funds so residents can live in more adequate homes,” Didi said.

Beyond energy assistance and planned home renovations, UPI will also help provide loudspeakers for the mosque after it was discovered that the call to prayer could not be heard clearly in some parts of the village.
