UPI Lecturer Allegedly Scams Woman Out of IDR 100 Million, Campus Responds

A social media post alleging fraud by a lecturer at a prominent university in Bandung, West Java, has gone viral. The lecturer, identified by the initials DS, is accused of scamming a woman. According to the circulating post, the lecturer, who holds a doctoral degree, borrowed around IDR 100 million from the woman on the grounds of conducting research. However, the loan was allegedly never repaid, and the individual became difficult to contact. Netizens were asked to help track down the lecturer’s whereabouts.

In response to the viral incident, Vidi Sukmayadi, Head of the Communication, Information, and Public Service Office at the Indonesia University of Education (UPI), issued a clarification. He confirmed that the university had received the information and forwarded it to the leadership to follow up on the case in accordance with the institution’s internal mechanisms.

“In the process, UPI is committed to upholding the principles of accountability, transparency, and justice, while respecting the rights of all parties related to the case, including the application of the presumption of innocence until there are accountable examination results,” Vidi said in a written statement. The university also urged the entire academic community and the public not to jump to conclusions and to refrain from spreading unverified information, as it could lead to misunderstandings and disrupt the ongoing handling process.
