UPI and Telkom Collaborate to Implement SDGs
Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in higher education environments continues to expand through cross-sector collaboration. Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) and PT Telkom Indonesia are strengthening their synergy to accelerate sustainable development programmes based on education, research, and community service.
This strengthening of collaboration was marked by the handover of operational vehicles to the Faculty of Social Sciences Education (FPIPS) at UPI in the East Lobby of FPIPS UPI this week. This operational support enhances mobility for implementing various SDGs agendas that require direct field activities.
UPI Rector Didi Sukyadi stated that the success of SDGs programmes demands real campus involvement in society. “We greatly need this vehicle to support university mobility, especially in developing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) programmes,” he said, as quoted on Friday (8/5/2026).
Didi explained that his side often carries out community service activities in remote areas, such as mangrove planting, as well as monitoring student activities at UPI’s regional campuses in Serang, Purwakarta, Tasikmalaya, Sumedang, and Cibiru. These activities serve as direct implementations of sustainable development goals, particularly in aspects of quality education, climate action, and community empowerment.
The cooperation between UPI and PT Telkom Indonesia also encompasses strengthening digital education and distance learning that supports equitable access to education. Technology integration is seen as accelerating the achievement of SDGs targets through digital-based educational innovations.
Dean of FPIPS UPI, Prof Cecep Darmawan, stated that operational support expands the implementation of academic activities and community service oriented towards sustainable development. “This assistance is an effort to support improvements in education quality and real contributions to achieving sustainable development goals,” he said.
According to Cecep, FPIPS UPI actively implements sustainability programmes such as green campus movements, strengthening social ecology, and community empowerment based on education. Higher education is seen as having a strategic role in connecting scientific knowledge with sustainable development practices at the local level.
Representative of PT Telkom Indonesia, Rico Junian, stated that support for UPI reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening the education sector while promoting the achievement of national sustainable development agendas. “We see UPI as a strategic partner with an important role in the world of education,” he said.
Collaboration between campuses and the industrial world becomes one of the important factors in accelerating the achievement of SDGs in Indonesia, especially through strengthening the mobility of social, educational, and environmental activities that have a direct impact on society. The event was attended by university leaders, company representatives, and UPI’s academic community.
