Based on 2026 programme competitiveness data, interest in several top programmes remains high. Psychology at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) recorded the highest number of applicants with 3,039 candidates for only 76 available places, resulting in a competitiveness rate of 2.50 per cent.

Other popular programmes include Management with 1,950 applicants, Communication Science with 1,709, Surveying and Geospatial Information Science with 1,615, and Accounting with 1,495. Medicine had the highest competition ratio, with 15 places available out of 748 applicants, yielding a 2.01 per cent acceptance rate.

High competition was also observed in other programmes: Communication Science (1,709 applicants, 36 admitted), Psychology (3,039 applicants, 76 admitted), Surveying and Geospatial Information Science (1,615 applicants, 45 admitted), Management (1,950 applicants, 60 admitted), and Food Technology (478 applicants, 15 admitted). The data indicates that health, communication, business, and social science programmes remain the top choices for prospective students.

Vidi Sukmayadi, Head of UPI’s Communication, Information, and Public Service Office (KKIPP), stated on Tuesday (26 May) that the majority of applicants selected their preferred programmes as their first choice. For Psychology, 1,644 candidates (54.1 per cent) listed it as their first preference. Similarly, Communication Science had 833 first-choice applicants (48.7 per cent), while Management had 865 (44.4 per cent).

However, Surveying and Geospatial Information Science showed a different pattern, with 1,236 applicants (76.5 per cent) selecting it as their third choice.

Overall, UPI received 56,670 applications in 2026, with only 5,576 successful admissions, leaving 51,094 unsuccessful. The overall acceptance rate is 9.84 per cent, reflecting strong public enthusiasm for UPI and increasingly competitive university admissions.

Vidi urged prospective students to carefully consider their programme choices based on interest, competence, and admission chances. He added that the data would help universities evaluate trends and improve educational services.
