Upgraded Ford Lynx RS for those who need to get around quickly

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

In upgrading a car model, car makers may mount a larger engine, furnish the interior with more lavish materials, install more safety features or add more accessories. PT Ford Motor Indonesia (FMI) recently launched the Ford Lynx RS powered by a more powerful 2,000 cc engine -- an addition of 200 cc in capacity compared to the older version of Ford Lynx.

The 16-valve, four-cylinder engine unleashes a maximum power of 140 horsepower (hp) at 6,000 revolutions per minute (rpm), and a maximum torque of 192 Newton meters (Nm) at 4,500 rpm.

The engine applies variable inertia changing system (VICS) technology, optimizing the air inflow into the engine to get maximum speed, and the electronic fuel injection (EFI) system.

Priced at Rp 249 million (US$27,600), the new version of the Ford Lynx is a sporty sedan with a four-speed automatic transmission equipped with direct electronic shift control (DESC) and slope control.

Passengers are pampered with a leather bound steering wheel, two-tone fire-resistant seats, as well as an aluminum sporty aero-kit.

The aero-kit includes bumper spoiler, side skirt, rear- spoiler, white speedometer panel and new designs for the headlamp and rear lamp.

Other features include an electric sunroof, side rear-view mirrors with electric power folding, dark net radiator grille and rear-parking sensor.

"We believe that the sedan market has the potential to develop here in the years to come," PT FMI president Will Angove said at the Lynx's launching ceremony on April 27.

"That's why we launched the Ford Lynx RS 2.0L which is developed from the Ford Lynx 1.8L," he said.

Angove added the Ford Lynx RS with its sporty look, better performance and larger engine would enable it to compete in the small sedan segment.

"This is the car for those who want driving satisfaction but also a stylish, high-performance car that fits their budget," he said.

Dual supplemental restraint system (SRS) airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), head impact cushioning pillars and an engine immbolilizer are standard safety and security features of Ford Lynx RS.

Triple H-body and side-impact beams provide important crash protection.

With dimensions of 4.4 meters long, 1.7 meters wide and 1.4 meters wide, Ford Lynx RS has a wheelbase of 2.6 meters with a turning radius of 5.3 meters.

Sharp turns will not be a problem with the presence of the twin trapezoidal suspension with stabilizer bar in rear tires, adjustable to any road condition.

The front tires, meanwhile, use MacPherson strut with stabilizers. The tires are 195/50 R16 with 16-inch alloy wheels.

There are two color schemes available: infra red metal and panther black.

Ford Lynx RS expects competition from Japanese 1,800cc Toyota Corolla Altis, 1,700 cc Honda Civic, and 1,600 cc Mitsubishi Lancer which are priced from Rp 205 million to Rp 275 million, depending on the model and variants.
