UPDATE! Soekarno-Hatta Airport Remains Closed, Shutdown Extended Until 23:59 WIB
Flight operations at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport have been extended once again. The airport, one of Indonesia’s main gateways for air transport, has yet to resume flight services as of Monday evening, 7 September 2026.
The decision was taken as a precautionary measure against increased eruptive activity at Mount Anak Krakatau. The volcanic conditions are deemed likely to cause volcanic ash to spread to the area around the airport and flight routes.
According to the latest information from the operator of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the temporary suspension of flight operations now applies until 23:59 WIB on Monday, 7 September 2026.
“In view of the increased eruption activity of Mount Anak Krakatau, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is suspending flight operations until 23:59 WIB,” read an official statement from Soekarno-Hatta Airport, quoted from the Instagram account @soekarnohattaairport on Monday, 7 September 2026.
The extension is the latest adjustment after operations at Soekarno-Hatta Airport had previously been scheduled to reopen in stages. The suspension, which originally applied only on Sunday, 6 September 2026, was first extended to Monday morning and afternoon.
However, developments at Mount Anak Krakatau prompted the airport operator to reassess the situation. Aviation safety remains the primary consideration before operations are declared safe to resume.
Passengers Asked to Recheck Flight Schedules
The extended closure of Soekarno-Hatta Airport is bound to affect departure and arrival schedules for a number of flights. Passengers holding tickets for Monday, 7 September 2026 are therefore asked not to rely solely on the flight schedules they previously received.
Conditions may change at any time depending on monitoring of volcanic activity and the aviation safety situation. Passengers are also advised to confirm information through official airline channels before heading to the airport.
“We urge all airport users to recheck the status and schedule of their flights through official airline channels before travelling, and for airport information please contact the InJourney Airports Contact Centre on 172,” the airport’s official statement continued.
Members of the public planning to travel through Soekarno-Hatta Airport should therefore check again before heading to the terminal. This step is important to establish whether a flight is proceeding as planned, delayed, rescheduled, or cancelled as a result of the temporary suspension of operations.
