Update on Sexual Violence Case Involving University of Indonesia Faculty of Law Students
Universitas Indonesia (UI) states that the handling of the sexual violence case at the Faculty of Law UI is still ongoing. Of the total 20 victims, seven students and six lecturers have been examined by the Task Force for Prevention and Handling of Violence (Satgas PPK).
“Results of the examination of victims by the task force team and expert team, the minutes of examination are for seven students and six lecturers,” said UI’s Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Relations, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, to Tempo on Friday, 24 April 2026.
Erwin has not yet revealed the results of the examinations from those 13 victims. He only confirmed that the examination process for those victims is part of UI’s efforts to obtain complete and in-depth information regarding the sexual violence that occurred.
Erwin said the results of the victim examinations will become one of the determinants of the sanctions to be imposed on the perpetrators. “The assessment of sanctions is not only based on what the suspects did, but also on the impact felt by the victims,” said Erwin.
“This requires the task force to examine each suspect individually, verify digital evidence technically, and provide victim support with a victim-based approach,” he added.
In addition, the Satgas PPK has also begun summoning the 16 suspected perpetrators one by one. The summons are conducted to obtain separate statements from each perpetrator, so that Satgas PPK can obtain in-depth information regarding the role of each individual in this case.
According to Erwin, this separate examination process is what makes the handling of this case take a lot of time. “The handling for these 16 people must be done one by one, so the handling is also quite in-depth and serious,” he said.
Furthermore, Erwin conveyed that besides Satgas PPK members, the investigation of this case is also assisted by a special expert team formed to help the task force accelerate the handling of this case. That expert team consists of 10 experts including legal experts, clinical psychology experts, forensic psychology experts, digital forensic experts, and expertise related to gender.
Later, all sanctions for the 16 suspected perpetrators will be recommended by Satgas PPK and that expert team in accordance with the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation (Permendikbudristek) Number 55 of 2024 and the Rector of UI Regulation Number 37 of 2025 which regulates the mechanism of Satgas PPK in conducting examinations.
In accordance with those two regulations, UI targets the handling of this case to be completed within 79 days, counted from when the violence report was received on Friday, 17 April 2026. “That is the time in accordance with the mandate of the task force team to complete this case,” said Erwin.
Previously, 16 students from the Faculty of Law at Universitas Indonesia were suspected of committing sexual violence. They are suspected of having sexually toned conversations discussing other students in their internal group. That conversation circulated on social media X through a post by the account @sampahfhui on Saturday, 11 April 2026.
The victims’ lawyer, Timotius Rajagukguk, revealed that the victims of the alleged harassment involving students from the Faculty of Law at Universitas Indonesia (FHUI) number 20 female students and seven lecturers. According to Timotius, this case has been occurring since 2025 and the victims already knew they were harassed in that year.
