Update on Mount Sinabung Eruption Impact: 55 Flights Cancelled at Kualanamu Airport and 6 Schedule Adjustments

PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi has updated the latest data regarding the impact of the Mount Sinabung eruption at Kualanamu International Airport, Deli Serdang Regency. It has been recorded that 55 flights to and from Kualanamu International Airport have been cancelled, 6 flights have undergone schedule adjustments or retiming, and 11 flights have been delayed.

This was revealed by the Manager of Corporate Affairs at PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi, Mohamad Hikmat Hidayat, when confirmed on Monday night, 1 September 2026.

“Based on the temporary updated data we received at 16:00 WIB on 1 September 2026, the impact of volcanic ash has caused 55 flights to and from Kualanamu International Airport to be cancelled, while 6 flights have experienced time adjustments or retiming, and 11 flights are delayed,” said Hikmat.

Hikmat explained that the data remains dynamic and subject to change depending on the distribution of volcanic ash and the operational decisions of each airline, while always prioritising flight safety and security.

In response to this, Hikmat explained that PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi continues to conduct intensive coordination with airlines, AirNav Indonesia, Airport Authorities, and all aviation stakeholders to ensure that every operational development can be communicated and addressed promptly.

“From a service perspective, we continue to encourage the regular provision of flight information to passengers and urge prospective passengers to reconfirm their flight status through official airline channels before heading to the airport,” said Hikmat.

Hikmat stated that the company understands that schedule changes or flight cancellations can cause inconvenience, and therefore expressed apologies to passengers at Kualanamu Airport.

“Therefore, we continue to optimise coordination and service to users, while maintaining flight safety and security as our top priority,” said Hikmat.

Hikmat explained that according to NOTAM A3254/26 issued by AirNav Indonesia, Kualanamu International Airport was declared ‘Aerodrome Resumed Normal Operation’, meaning airport operations returned to normal starting from 07:07 UTC, Tuesday afternoon, 1 September 2026, at 14:07 WIB. Previously, flight operations had been temporarily closed since 10:50 WIB.

Consequently, Hikmat added that Kualanamu Airport operations have now reopened and are no longer under a closure or airport hold status.
