Update on KM Nurul Salsa Accident in Selayar: Captain Named Suspect
Investigators from the Selayar Police Criminal Unit have named the captain of KM Nurul Salsa, MA (36), as a suspect in the ship accident occurring in the waters of Selayar Islands Regency, South Sulawesi.
The incident caused the deaths of four passengers, while 14 others have been declared missing.
“It is true, the captain of KM Nuracia, MA, has been named a suspect,” said the Head of Criminal Investigation at Selayar Police, Sukarman, on Tuesday (1/9).
According to Sukarman, the designation of MA as a suspect was based on the results of a case review conducted by the Selayar Police Criminal Unit investigators.
“The results of the investigators’ case review found two or more sufficient pieces of evidence, leading to MA being named a suspect,” he stated.
“Specifically for the suspect MA, we have sent the case file to the prosecutor’s office and are currently awaiting the results of the prosecutor’s review,” he explained.
Selayar Police Chief, AKBP Didid Imawan, stated that the captain of KM Nurul Salsa became a suspect because he was deemed negligent, leading to the deaths of passengers.
“The individual is considered negligent, causing the death or loss of life of others,” said Didid.
For now, Didid noted that investigators are still conducting an inquiry into the ship accident and that it remains possible for new suspects to be identified.
“I have also instructed the Head of Criminal Investigation, the Head of Marine Police, and the entire investigative team to continue the investigation into the possibility of other parties being proven criminally liable in this case,” he explained.
