Update on Illegal Mobile Phone Import Case: Three Suspects Handed Over to Prosecutors, One Still at Large

The handling of the case of alleged illegal mobile phone smuggling from China, investigated by the Directorate of Special Economic Crimes (Dittipideksus) of the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police, has entered a new chapter. The case files for three suspects have been declared complete, or P21, by the public prosecutor. Meanwhile, one other suspect, believed to have played a significant role in the case, remains at large and is still being pursued by investigators.

Director of Special Economic Crimes at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Ade Safri Simanjuntak, stated that the three suspects whose files are now complete are DCP alias PR and SJ, both Chinese nationals, and MT, the Director of PT TSL (Tepat Sukses Logistik). ‘The public prosecutor has notified investigators that the investigation results for the case have been declared complete or P-21,’ Ade Safri said in a statement on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

Ade explained that the three case files were processed separately at three different district prosecutor’s offices. SJ’s file was handled by the West Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office, DCP’s by the North Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office, and MT’s was processed by the Sidoarjo District Prosecutor’s Office.

On the other hand, investigators are still pursuing a suspect with the initials TW, who served as a director of PT TSI. TW is suspected of having fled abroad and has consequently been placed on the wanted list. ‘Suspect TW has been placed on the wanted list, and investigators are currently continuing the search for the individual concerned,’ he stated.

In this case, DCP is suspected of acting as the main controller of the illegal mobile phone import activities from China into Indonesia for subsequent distribution to various regions. Meanwhile, SJ, MT, and TW are suspected of assisting in the preparation, processing, and provision of documents used to facilitate the illegal entry of goods into Indonesian customs territory.

From the investigation, police seized evidence including Android phones, iPhones, and other electronic devices with a total value reaching approximately Rp250 billion. Police also confiscated other evidence such as batteries worth around Rp3 billion, as well as thousands of supporting equipment, hundreds of chargers, and packing and servicing tools valued at approximately Rp10 billion.
