Update on Cikarang-Balaraja, Fatmawati-TMII, and South Tangerang MRT Projects
The development of the Jakarta MRT network continues to be prepared to reach a wider area. In addition to the East-West MRT project, which is entering the contractor procurement stage, other corridors to South Tangerang and Taman Mini are still in the feasibility study phase.
Director of Construction of MRT Jakarta, Weni Maulina, stated that the construction of the East-West corridor, which will eventually connect to Balaraja, is currently in the contractor procurement process. ‘For the East-West corridor construction activities, we are currently procuring the contractor, because this is a cooperation with the lender JICA, with Japan, so we are currently procuring a contractor from Japan,’ Weni said at the Monas MRT project on Wednesday (22/7/2026).
Meanwhile, the development of the Fatmawati-Taman Mini route and the route to South Tangerang has not yet entered the construction phase. Both projects are still focused on preparing feasibility studies as the basis for determining the alignment and implementation of construction. ‘For the Taman Mini-Fatmawati line, it is still in the study phase, still in the feasibility study exploration phase,’ Weni said.
MRT Jakarta considers these studies to be an important stage before the project proceeds to the technical planning, procurement, and construction phases, ensuring that the development can meet the transportation needs of Jakarta’s supporting areas. ‘Yes, South Tangerang is also under study,’ Weni mentioned.
