Update on BYD Factory in Subang, Finalisation Stage
BOGOR, KOMPAS.com - BYD Indonesia has stated that the construction of its vehicle assembly facility in Subang, West Java, has now entered the final stage. Luther Pandjaitan, Head of Marketing, PR & Government at BYD Indonesia, expressed hope that the factory can begin operations in the near future. “I cannot provide a specific timeline for when operations will start. However, the construction process has indeed entered the final stage. This stage is very important as it relates to compliance aspects for the factory’s operations,” Luther said in Bogor, West Java, on Tuesday (13/5/2026). Luther emphasised that the finalisation process is being conducted seriously to ensure that product quality standards are maintained. Nevertheless, BYD remains committed to getting operations underway as quickly as possible. “But in principle, we certainly want it to happen as soon as possible,” he stated. Regarding the vehicle models to be produced in the initial phase, Luther was reluctant to provide further details. According to him, the models to be produced will be adjusted to meet the greatest market demand in Indonesia. “In principle, manufacturing will adjust to the most dominant and significant market. Currently, the Atto 1 and M6 are the line-up most sought after by Indonesian consumers,” Luther said. For information, BYD’s current product line in Indonesia consists of the Dolphin, Atto 3, Seal, Sealion, M6, and Atto 1. Meanwhile, in the premium MPV segment, BYD also offers the Denza D9.
