Up to 1,000 homes inundated in Kendal
KENDAL, Central Java: Nearly 1,000 houses in five villages around the Kendal regency were inundated with meter-high floodwater Saturday following torrential rains Friday night.
Four thousand people were forced to evacuate their homes late Saturday when the water began to swamp their homes about 3 p.m.
"When the water was 70 centimeters high and kept going up we decided to move to higher ground," Solikun, 48, a resident of Truko, said.
The other four villages affected by the flood were Lebosari, Kangkung, Tanjungmojo and Jungsami. (har)
