UOB Sells Asset Management Unit to Allianz in Strategic Wealth Management Pivot
UOB Group has entered a strategic partnership with Allianz Global Investors (AGI).
Through this partnership, AGI will acquire UOB Asset Management (UOBAM).
The acquisition covers UOBAM’s business in eight Asian markets, namely Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
As part of the agreement, UOB and AGI will also enter into a long-term distribution partnership.
This partnership strengthens UOB’s position as a provider of investment product distribution services with an open architecture approach, while expanding the range of investment solutions available to customers.
The move also underscores UOB’s focus on wealth management services based on investment advisory that helps customers grow and preserve asset value over the long term.
Through this partnership, UOB will offer an increasingly diverse range of investment products and solutions to more than eight million customers across the ASEAN region.
The partnership reinforces UOB’s open architecture strategy by providing access to global investment capabilities, while continuing to prioritise advisory services, product suitability aligned with customers’ risk profiles, and the achievement of long-term investment goals.
Beyond expanding investment choices for customers, this collaboration also supports UOB’s wealth management business growth targets through more diverse investment solutions tailored to each customer’s risk profile, life stage, and financial objectives.
The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval across all relevant jurisdictions and is targeted for completion in 2027.
During this process, UOBAM and AGI are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for both customers and employees.
Under the agreement, all 500 UOBAM employees across various countries will join AGI.
AGI is committed to maintaining their employment relationships and providing opportunities for them to become part of a broader global investment platform.
During the transition period, UOBAM’s operational activities will continue as normal, allowing customers to access services, invest, and redeem UOBAM investment funds without any changes or service disruptions.
Excluding one-off transaction costs, the transaction value amounts to S$555 million.
UOB estimates that the transaction will generate a pre-tax gain of approximately S$330 million and increase the Group’s Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio by approximately 14 basis points.
This move is part of UOB’s long-term strategy to sharpen its business focus.
By optimising the value of its asset management business and maintaining a strategic partnership with AGI, UOB is positioned to grow its wealth management business, drive sustainable profit growth, and enhance long-term valuation for shareholders.
After four decades as part of UOB Group, UOBAM has grown into one of Asia’s leading asset management networks with operations across multiple countries.
As of 31 December 2025, UOBAM’s total assets under management (AUM) reached approximately S$42 billion.
Based on the unaudited pro forma consolidated balance sheet as of 31 December 2025, the net asset value associated with the shareholding being divested in this transaction amounts to S$223 million.
“UOB serves more than eight million customers across ASEAN who have increasingly diverse and complex investment and asset management needs.
