Unyielding Spirit: Mother Anastasya Proves Every Struggle Deserves Companionship

The small daily steps of a mother often conceal profound tales of determination. In Manado, that story comes from Anastasya Sampaleng, a housewife who chose to stand firm amid challenging circumstances. When her husband, a construction worker, fell ill, she had little choice but to keep moving. Walking up to about two kilometres each day, Anastasya peddles homemade dishes to the local community. She does this to keep the kitchen fires burning and her family afloat. That journey did not begin under easy conditions. Previously, she had started a small grocery stall after joining PNM Mekaar, which helped gradually boost the family’s income. However, as her husband’s health deteriorated, the business could no longer operate optimally. She then switched to selling fritters, even having to leave her child at home temporarily to continue trading. From there, she slowly reorganised her steps until she dared to increase her financing limit and shift to a food business that now serves as the family’s main support. For Anastasya, every step taken is not just about herself. “I don’t want to give up, because what I’m fighting for is not just for me, but for my family and my child. Tiredness is certainly there, but I believe that if I keep going, a way will appear,” she said. From the consistent effort she undertakes, she has begun to see changes. Her home is gradually being renovated. Her child’s education can continue. This journey serves as a reminder that the courage to persevere often stems from a greater responsibility than oneself.
