UNY Adopts VKTR Electric Buses, Strengthening National Industry Collaboration for Sustainable Campus Mobility

PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk, a pioneer in commercial electric vehicle manufacturing listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, officially handed over two 8-metre electric buses to Yogyakarta State University (UNY) on Tuesday (11/8) at the UNY campus in Yogyakarta. The handover is part of a shared commitment to support a cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable mobility transformation within the educational environment.

This collaboration demonstrates confidence in the national industry’s ability to deliver reliable electric vehicle solutions tailored to operational needs. As a commercial electric vehicle manufacturer based in Magelang, Central Java, VKTR remains committed to developing innovations designed and produced domestically to strengthen Indonesia’s electric vehicle ecosystem.

The buses used by UNY are VKTR 8-metre electric buses, designed to support area mobility with a capacity of up to 30 passengers in a seated and standing configuration. These vehicles utilise a fully electric drive system with a range of up to 270 kilometres on a single charge, enabling efficient daily operations while producing significantly lower emissions compared to fossil fuel vehicles.

The adoption of these electric buses is expected to improve mobility comfort for the academic community while serving as a tangible educational tool regarding the application of environmentally friendly transport technology on campus.

VKTR’s President Director, A. Ardiansyah Bakrie, expressed appreciation for UNY’s progressive step in adopting electric vehicles for campus mobility. “We appreciate the trust that Yogyakarta State University has placed in VKTR. This collaboration shows that domestically manufactured products can meet the mobility needs of institutions with efficient, reliable, and sustainable solutions. We hope the presence of these electric buses will not only support campus operations but also become part of the collective effort to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia,” he said.

This collaboration is also in line with the government’s commitment to accelerating electric vehicle adoption as part of the national energy transition strategy and reducing emissions in the transport sector. The campus environment plays a strategic role as a space for implementation and learning for the younger generation about the importance of low-emission mobility and sustainable development.
