Unveiling of Sulphuric Acid Case Demonstrates TNI's Professionalism and Adherence to President's Orders
The revelation of the sulphuric acid spraying case involving rogue officials has drawn significant public attention. In this context, the swift and open actions taken by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) are regarded as a tangible demonstration of professionalism as well as obedience to the head of state’s orders in enforcing the law.
Legal expert Margarito Kamis stated that the TNI’s performance in uncovering this case deserves appreciation. According to him, the actions align with instructions from Prabowo Subianto, which emphasise the importance of investigating cases openly and thoroughly.
“This deserves appreciation because it is a form of obedience to the President’s order to clarify this case. In fact, the revelation was carried out quickly and clearly,” Margarito told reporters on Thursday (19/3).
He emphasised that the uncovering by the TNI’s Military Police Centre (Puspom) demonstrates the institution’s commitment to firmly addressing alleged violations, including those involving internal rogue elements. According to him, this actually shows the institution’s integrity and courage in upholding the honour of the law.
“In fact, it was the TNI apparatus itself that uncovered it, because the alleged perpetrator comes from within. Therefore, what is most important is no longer which institution uncovered it, but how the perpetrator can be found and processed legally,” he explained.
Furthermore, Margarito stressed that in a democratic rule-of-law state, the primary aspect that must be upheld is the professionalism of law enforcement officials. Accuracy, speed, and firmness in enforcing the law are important indicators that must be met by every state institution.
“The most fundamental thing is that the institution is able to carry out its function professionally. Accuracy, speed, obedience, and firmness in enforcing the law are the most important,” he added.
He also reminded the public not to get caught up in debates about which party uncovered the case, but to focus on the substance of law enforcement itself. In his view, the success of the state lies in how far the apparatus works in accordance with the legal mandate given.
With this swift and transparent step, the TNI is seen to have demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting fair and accountable law enforcement, while strengthening public trust in state institutions.
