Unusual Incident: Motorcyclists Dash Through East Jakarta Monday Morning Brawl

Road users faced severe congestion in Klender, East Jakarta, this morning. Monday’s rush hour traffic worsened due to a brawl, with vehicles coming to a standstill as the incident blocked the road. Police footage confirmed the brawl caused major delays, with long queues of vehicles observed. Officers arrived and dispersed the crowd, restoring normal traffic flow. ‘Traffic is now flowing smoothly along I Gusti Ngurah Rai Street, Kebon Singkong, Klender, East Jakarta. The brawl occurred at 5:30 AM,’ said East Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Chief Kompol Harnas Prihandito on Monday (25 May 2026).

Motorcyclists Break Through Brawl

The brawl took place along I Gusti Ngurah Rai Street near Klender Station in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, disrupting commuters and schoolgoers. Motorcyclist Ilham, present at 6:55 AM, recounted how he and others dared to push through the crowd despite thrown objects. ‘It happened before Klender Station heading towards Bekasi. We charged through the mob, and some riders were hit by thrown bottles,’ he said. He confirmed those hit were unharmed and joined the group as others did the same. ‘I was already late, and most vehicles around me were moving forward too,’ he added. While some waited or turned back, Ilham noted police eventually intervened.

Public Transport Affected

Public transport was also affected, with buses stuck due to the brawl blocking the road. Transjakarta reported delays on Corridor 11, Route 11W, JAK34, and JAK42 services due to the incident near Klender Station. ‘We apologise for the inconvenience and urge passengers to check updates via our official channels,’ the operator said in a Monday (25 May 2026) 7:10 AM post.

Firecrackers and Bows Seized

East Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Alfian Nurrizal said the brawl was dispersed by the Presisi Patrol Team and Brimob personnel. Responding to a 7:10 AM report, officers swiftly arrived and quelled the incident. During a search, authorities seized three firecrackers, five bows, and one slingshot projectile.
