UNTR to Restart Martabe Gold Mine Operations After Temporary Halt by PKH Task Force
PT United Tractors Tbk (UNTR), a subsidiary of the Astra International group, has announced preparations to restart operations at the Martabe Gold Mine, targeted for mid-May 2026. It is projected that the mine could produce up to 60,000 ounces of gold in the remainder of the year.
“Mid-May is when we can start operating, and once we do, the target is around 60,000 ounces,” said UNTR President Director Iwan Hadiantoro during a press conference following the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders at Menara Astra, Jakarta, on Thursday (16/4/2026).
Previously, the Mining Business Licence (IUP) for the Martabe Gold Mine was suspended by the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force (Satgas PKH) due to flooding disasters in the Sumatra region at the end of 2025. The Martabe Gold Mine is an asset owned by UNTR’s subsidiary, PT Agincourt Resources (PTAR).
Iwan explained that the company is currently preparing to resume mining activities along with contractors at the Martabe Gold Mine. Additionally, the company is beginning to recall employees who were previously laid off due to the temporary suspension of mine operations.
“The employees who were laid off are being called back. And most importantly, we are striving to improve quality, safety aspects, and environmental living standards. Of course, we are continuing to work intensively with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK),” said Iwan.
For information, the suspension of operations at the Martabe Gold Mine owned by PT Agincourt Resources (PTAR) was announced by the Minister of Environment and Forestry/Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, on 6 December 2025.
The policy was taken after conducting aerial and ground inspections in the upstream areas of the Batang Toru and Garoga river basins to verify the causes of the disaster, as well as to evaluate the contribution of business activities to increased flood and landslide risks.
Additionally, the step was taken to ensure compliance with environmental protection standards.
“Starting from 6 December 2025, all companies in the upstream Batang Toru river basin must halt operations and undergo an environmental audit. We have summoned the three companies for an official examination on 8 December 2025 in Jakarta,” said Hanif.
