Teheran – Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) has emphasised that Tehran will continue to conduct strict monitoring and control over the Strait of Hormuz. This will be done until the war against the US-Israel alliance truly ends and sustainable peace is achieved.

The SNSC secretariat, in a statement on Saturday (18 April 2026), announced that following the battlefield failures of the US-Israel side and ongoing requests from the United States for negotiations, Iran agreed through Pakistan’s mediation to hold talks aimed at ending the conflict based on the proposed plan.

It was stated that the Iranian delegation engaged in lengthy negotiations. Iran firmly conveyed its position despite deep distrust towards the United States.

According to the statement, the negotiations ultimately failed because the opposing side presented additional demands that Iran rejected. The country emphasised that it will not compromise on its core positions.

Therefore, the continuation of negotiations has been postponed until the other side aligns its stance with the realities on the battlefield. The statement also mentioned that a new proposal has recently been received through Pakistan’s mediation and is currently under review.

It was stressed that the Iranian delegation will not sacrifice national interests and will continue to defend the rights and sacrifices of the Iranian people.

“One of the important prerequisites for Iran’s acceptance of a temporary ceasefire is the cessation of fire on all fronts, including Lebanon. However, the Zionist regime violated this from the outset with brutal attacks on Lebanon and the heroic Hezbollah,” the statement added.

The statement further noted that, at Iran’s insistence, Israel accepted a ceasefire in Lebanon. It was agreed that if a ceasefire is approved on all fronts by the enemy side, the Strait of Hormuz will be temporarily and conditionally opened only for commercial vessels, not military ships or non-military vessels belonging to enemy states. This control is under the authorisation of Iran’s Armed Forces and through routes designated by Iran.

Iran is determined to implement supervision and control through the strait. This will continue until the definitive end of the war and the establishment of sustainable peace.

It was explained that this control is carried out through obtaining complete information from passing vessels, issuing transit certificates in accordance with regulations announced by the Islamic Republic of Iran in line with wartime conditions, as well as payment of fees related to security services, safety, and environmental protection, and movement of ships through routes set by Iran.

The statement also affirmed that if the enemy side attempts to disrupt shipping traffic or impose measures such as a naval blockade, the Islamic Republic of Iran will consider it a violation of the ceasefire. Consequently, Iran will prevent or even limit the conditional opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
