Jakarta — The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) notes that almost half of all padel courts in its area do not have a Building Permit (PBG). Of Jakarta’s total 387 padel courts, only 212 have a PBG.

Head of the Office of Cipta Karya, Tata Ruang, dan Pertanahan (Citata) of the Jakarta Province, Vera Revina Sari, said they fully support the development of the sport of padel, which is currently popular. However, the construction of padel courts must still meet licensing requirements and take into account spatial planning and the comfort of the surrounding environment.

“As part of controlling the construction and operation of padel courts, we have taken administrative action against a number of padel courts in Jakarta. As of early March 2026, 206 padel courts have been subjected to enforcement actions across various areas of Jakarta,” she said in a statement on Saturday (7/3/2026).

According to Vera, South Jakarta is the area with the highest number of padel courts, 206 locations. Of that total, 99 have licences, while 107 do not.

Meanwhile, in West Jakarta with 90 locations, 55 are licensed and 35 are unlicensed. North Jakarta has 37 padel courts, with 20 licensed and 17 unlicensed.

In East Jakarta, there are 37 locations, with 23 licensed and 14 unlicensed. In Central Jakarta there are 26 locations, with 15 licensed and 11 unlicensed. The Kepulauan Seribu archipelago has one location and it is unlicensed.

She explained that the enforcement comprises written warnings, activity restrictions, and cessation of activity (sealing of sites). She said that a number of padel courts have already been sealed. The breakdown: 40 locations in East Jakarta, 31 locations in West Jakarta, 110 in South Jakarta, 18 in North Jakarta, and 7 in Central Jakarta.

Vera said the data will form the basis for the Jakarta provincial government to conduct evaluation. Moreover, padel activity has been widely complained about by residents around the courts.

She stressed that they will follow the Governor of Jakarta’s directions to tighten operating hours at locations in densely populated areas, particularly if the activity causes noise and disturbs residents.

“This data shows that there are still padel courts without licences. We will provide coaching and supervision in accordance with applicable regulations, and coordinate with cross-sector agencies as directed by leadership,” she said.
